Hot-melt adhesive powder is a translucent granular fine chemical. In its production process, a material level measuring instrument is needed to measure and control the level of hot-melt adhesive powder. 1. Production process of hot-melt adhesive powder

Hot-melt adhesive powder is generated in the chemical reaction of isophthalic acid and polyethylene glycol in a reactor and produced through processes of crushing, dehydration and grounding etc.

2. Requirements for hot-melt adhesive powder level measurement

Because of strong chemical stability, high viscosity and odorlessness, hot-melt adhesive powder has been widely used for clothing, automotive interiors and rotomolding products such as large containers, water tanks, toys, thermal insulation boxes etc. In the production process, accurate measurement is required for high and low material levels of the finished product. According to the properties of hot-melt adhesive powder, there are some special requirements for the measuring instrument as follows:

1) Must be well sealed and with a higher protection rating
The hot-melt adhesive powder makes the working conditions extremely harsh. If the sealing of the instrument is not good enough, it will affect the operation stability of the instrument. Further, the ingress protection rating of the instrument should be above IP65.

2) Must be with explosion protection and certified for dust explosion protection
Dust explosion is the explosion which occurs when combustible dust suspended in the air meets flames or electric sparks. The most common dust explosions refers to coal powder, flour, wood powder, sugar powder, corn powder, potato powder, dried milk powder, aluminum powder, zinc powder, magnesium powder, sulfur powder and so on.

Combustible dust explodes when three conditions are all met: a) the dust itself is explosive; b) dust is suspended in the air and mixed with the air to an explosive concentration; c) there is a fire source that is sufficient to cause dust explosion.

Because the fineness of hot-melt adhesive powder in this application is about 40 ～ 80 mesh, there is a risk of explosion. Therefore, the instrument used for this application must be with a dust explosion protection certificate to ensure the safe operation.
